THE PART 1 EXAMINATION - THEORY

One hundred multiple choice questions on:

·
Road Procedure.
·
Traffic signs and signals, car control, pedestrians and mechanics.
·
Driving test, disabilities and the law.
·
DSA - Publications.

The test is conducted by the Driving standards Agency (DSA); the pass mark for the examination is 80% in each of the above bands with an overall pass mark of 85% being required.

As with the Theory Test for New Drivers, this now includes a Hazard Perception Test integral with the Part 1 examination (You must score 57 of 75 correct to obtain pass mark in this section.)

PART ONE TRAINING

This course is home study, enabling you to work at your own pace. You will work through five modules with a mock test at the end of each. There will be regular assessment with tutorials when necessary.

PART 2 EXAMINATION - THE PRACTICAL DRIVING TEST

Your own driving under analysis conducted by the DSA. Your drive will include built up areas, open A and B roads, Motorway driving and a number of manoeuvres similar to a normal driving test. As it is of an advanced nature a high standard of competence is required. You must show you have a thorough knowledge of the principles of good driving and apply this in practice. You must accumulate no more than six minor faults with no serious faults in order to pass.

PART TWO TRAINING

Your driving will be assessed in order to set up your personal training program with an indication of the number of hours required to reach the DSA standard, taken at the dates and times you wish, and usually in 3-hour sessions.

When can I begin to teach

Every trainee is entitled, following a successful Part 2 ‘Test of Driving Ability” to obtain a ‘Trainee Licence’ and given the opportunity  to begin teaching on a part time basis in a shared, fully equipped tuition  car.

This means you can begin to ‘earn fees’ and gain valuable ‘in-car’ experience with real pupils in preparation for your Part 3 ‘Test of Instructional ability’ at minimum cost.

Car sharing means you will only pay for use of the car during the period you are actually on the road, and can fit this in around your existing employment should you so wish.
